Abstrak

Osteoporosis is one of degenerative diseases that commonly suffered by elder people. It is signed by the decrease of bone compactness or mass that cause porous and breakable. A person whose bone is broken needs a lot of medicinal cost and makes him no longer productive and dependent. In Indonesia, 19,7% or 3.6 million elder people got osteoporosis. The study is to examine the correlation between knowledge and osteoporosis prevention done on gerontic people at Malintang Clinic of Mandailing Natal. This study occupied descriptive design with 75 elders as the samples. The sampling technique was purposive sampling. The data collection was through questionnaire sheets in which consisting knowledge, likert method and prevention tables. The analysis was using chi square with u < 0.005. It is revealed that knowledge relates to prevention osteoporosis happening on 67 samples (89.3%) with OR= 6.136. It can be concluded that there is a significant correlation between knowledge and osteoporosis prenvention in which the one having good knowledge is 6.1 times having good prevention compared with less knoeledge person.
