Abstract

Malnutrition will occur if the body does not get enough nutrition. One infectious disease that can cause malnutrition is diarrhea. Diarrhea in infants at the Panyabungan District General Hospital Mandailing Natal is the highest disease among the 10 diseases and some toddlers suffer from malnutrition due to diarrhea. The purpose of this study was to identify diarrheal diseases and the incidence of malnutrition and to analyze the relationship between diarrhea and the incidence of malnutrition. The sample in this study amounted to 57 respondents who were obtained using purposive sampling techniques. The research design used was cross sectional design and data were collected from respondents using observation sheets. Chi Square test results obtained significant values ​​p = 0,000. This shows that there is a relationship between diarrhea and the incidence of malnutrition in children under five in the Panyabungan District General Hospital Mandailing Natal District (p ≤ 0.05). Recommendations for future researchers are expected to be able to investigate further about other factors that can cause malnutrition
