Abstrak

Low birth weight is a baby born weighing less than 2500 grams without calculating the pregnancy period. The incidence of LBW in the Districts of North Panyabungan and East Panyabungan increased from 2012 to 2015 and this increase was calculated by tobacco consumption. The purpose of this study was to study and analyze the use of chewing consumption on LBW events in Simalungun Regency. Selected through a purposive sampling technique, this observational study with a case-control design was 38 mothers who produced low-weight infants and 38 mothers who produced low-birth babies (control groups). The data obtained were analyzed through analysis tables and multiple logistic regression tests. The results of this study indicate the fact of LBW occurrence considering consumption of 4-5 times / day with OR = 4.28; CI (1.12 - 16.23), tobacco consumption> 5 times / day with OR = 5.84; CI (1.73 - 19.74), maternal parity OR = 2.92; CI (1.03 - 8.23), interactions of tobacco consumption 4-5 times / day and> 5 times / day with maternal parity OR = 20.11; CI (1.02 - 395,113) and OR = 14.14; CI (1.15 - 173.53). Based on the results of the analysis, the conclusion drawn is that pregnant women who consume tobacco 4-5 times / day have a risk of 4.28 times,> 5 times / day have a risk of 5.84 times, and with parity have a risk of 2.92 times greater for giving birth to babies with low birth weight compared to pregnant women who do not buy tobacco. The interaction of tobacco consumption between 4-5 times / day and> 5 times / day with maternal parity increases the risk of low expenditure to 69.2% and 49.5%. The management of Simalungunus District health service suggests developing promotional strategies and promoting consumption policies for weight problems in accordance with the social characteristics, education and traditional culture of community members
