Abstract

ChronicRenalFailure (CRF) is a disease with a very high mortality and morbidity rate. Renal failure disease is a clinical condition characterized by the irreversible decline in renal function. This can be recognized through the other clinical symptoms and supporting/laboratory examination. CRF is not only a medical but also economic and psychological problems.  The prevalence of cronic renal failure in Indonesia (2009) was 12.5% which means that 18 millions adults in Indonesia were suffering from this CRF. The purpose of this study was to analyze the risk factor of the incident of CRF in Raden Mattaher General Hospital, Sumatera Utara Province, in 2018. This retrospective study with case-control design analyzed the relationship between the effect of the disease on the risk factor. The population of this study was the patients suffering from CRF and non-risk CRF visiting the Raden Mattaher General Hospital, Sumatera Utara Hospital, for treatment in 2013. The data for this study were obtained through questionnaire-based interviews. The data obtained were statistically analyzed through Chi-square test and multiple logistic regression tests. The result of this study showed that the variables influencing the incident of CRF were stress levels, consumption patterns, disease history, physical activity, and substance use, while the variables which did not have any influence on the incident of CRF were obecity, education, gender/sex, and age. It is necessary to increase the education and promotion activities to the vulnerable communities on the importance of prevention effort and anticipation through lifestyle control, consumption pattern setting, and stress management
