Monitoring the Growth of under five year-old children, the Use of Health

Abstract

Integrated Service Post as the extension of public health center is intended to provide health service for monitoring the growth and the development of under five year-old children each month. In implementing each Integrated Service Post activity, Health Operational Aid funds are provided by the government through the Ministry of Health in helping District/Town Administration. The objective of the research was to find out and to analyze the influence of the use of Health Operational Aid for the activity of nutrition service on the monitoring of the growth of under five years old children in Bambel Subdistrict, Mandailing NatalĀ  District. The research was a survey with explanatory research method. The population was all 33 village midwives who were in charge of Integrated Service Post under the coordination of public health center Plus Biak Muli, Bambel Subdistrict, Mandailing Natal District (total population). The data were gathered by conducting interviews with questionnaires and analyzed by using linear regression test. The result of the research showed that there was the influence of the use of Health Operational Aid funds (the availability of funds (p = 0.002) and people empowerment (p = 0.040) on the coverage of the monitoring of weighing under five year-old children (K/S); there was the influence of the use of Health Operational Aid funds (the availability of funds (p = 0.009)) on the coverage of public participation (D/S); and there was the influence of the use of Health Operational Aid funds (the availability of funds (p = 0.004)) on the coverage of the weighing outcome (N/D). It is recommended that midwives in the 33 Integrated Service Post in Bambel Subdistrict should pay more attention to the growth of under five year-old children by using Health Operational Aid funds which have been provided by the central government, so that malnutrition status can be reduced. It is also recommended that people empowerment should be performed regularly in every activity of Integrated Service Post so that the cadres as the main actors of Integrated Service Post activities are able to carry out their duty and responsibility
